HISTORY & PHILOSOPHY
Homer Bonner Jacobs Ortiz is a boutique litigation and transactional firm founded in Miami in 1986. For over three decades, the firm has thrived because of the results we achieve with and for our clients. Those results are themselves the result of the firm’s unwavering commitment to its core principles. We hire and develop exceptional talent and then apply that talent as efficiently as possible, keeping our client’s perspective foremost in our thoughts.
Talent always matters. Our attorneys are graduates of top national and regional law schools, with diverse backgrounds and complementary strengths. We cultivate resourcefulness in our attorneys and challenge them to think creatively about the solutions to the legal problems our clients face.
Training matters equally. Instilling in young lawyers a commitment to diligence and preparation has been a key to the firm’s success. Bespoke litigation and sophisticated transactional work demand lawyers of excellent pedigree, proper training, and that extra bit of something.
Homer Bonner Jacobs Ortiz has always been a difference-maker because it hires the right lawyers and trains them in the right way. Indeed, part of the firm’s proud history is that it has been a place at which many great lawyers first learned to be great lawyers. The firm’s alumni have gone on to start their own successful firms, manage offices of national firms, and become federal law clerks, assistant U.S. Attorneys, judges, and successful business owners. We believe we have contributed positively to the quality of the legal profession in our community for nearly thirty years by instilling good fundamentals in young lawyers and teaching them by example to practice the right way.
Proud as the firm is of its history and its contributions to the legal and business communities, we are not hidebound. On the contrary, we pride ourselves on being inventive about what we do and in having the willingness to experiment with the way in which we provide legal services in order to maximize efficiencies and better align our interests with our clients’ interests. In the long run, we succeed only if our clients are rewarded with both success and value.
CHARITY & PRO BONO & PUBLIC SERVICE
“With great power comes great responsibility.” Homer Bonner Jacobs Ortiz has always taken Voltaire’s admonition to heart. Society empowers attorneys specially. We have the power to profoundly and positively affect the lives of others who have neither the power nor the resources to navigate the legal system on their own. The firm believes that it is a moral imperative to use the power we have and the relative financial success that we enjoy helping others less able in our community.
The firm’s attorneys and its staff do this in a variety of ways. As reflected in each attorney’s bio, Homer Bonner Jacobs Ortiz attorneys believe in donating substantially to local charitable organizations, like Legal Services of Greater Miami. At all times, the firm is handling matters for those who cannot afford to hire an attorney. Collectively, we also spend hundreds and hundreds of hours each year assisting charitable and bar organizations, like the Federal Bar Association, the Ad Hoc Committee for Rule and Procedures for the Southern District of Florida, and many others.
AWARDS & ACCOLADES
For their achievements, many of our attorneys have been rewarded with accolades, which are shown in the attorney bios.
