HomerBonner cherishes the memory of our friend and esteemed colleague, R. Lawrence (“Larry”) Bonner. Larry was a giant at the firm and in the legal community, and was recognized as one of the leading trial lawyers in the country.
Larry graduated from the University of Notre Dame magna cum laude in 1977 and earned a law degree from Duke University School of Law in 1980. An internship with a law firm in led him to his future wife, Jeanie.
Larry met fellow Notre Dame alumnus, Peter Homer, while practicing at a Miami law firm. Larry and Peter subsequently formed HomerBonner, focusing on complex commercial and business litigation, securities and commodities law, and banking litigation. Larry’s legal practice primarily focused on securities and commodities litigation, and his expertise and skill as a trial lawyer made him one of the country’s foremost experts in these areas. In fact, numerous landmark decisions bear Larry’s name and are the product of his legal creativity. Larry’s rare combination of a lightning-quick mind, outstanding judgment, and legendary persuasive skills made him a superb advocate.
Sadly, Larry lost his 20-month courageous battle with brain cancer in 2007. He is survived by his wife and three sons.
In his memory, HomerBonner and the Bonner family created “The Larry Bonner Endowment for Excellence in Commodities and Securities Law,” a perpetual fund for the Notre Dame Law School that has raised over $120,000.00. The Larry Bonner Endowment will allow the law school to strengthen its curriculum and advance the legal framework regarding trading and dispute resolution in the commodities and securities arenas.
